Giuliana Rancic ‘Sees Why People Took Offense’ To Zendaya Comment

It’s been a rocky road for the Fashion Police since Giuliana Rancic madecontroversial comments about Zendaya on an episode of the show that aired back in February. Now in a new sit-down, the E! News personality is opening up about those comments she made about the singer/actress.

In an interview on The Today Show on Monday (April 6), Rancic said that she “made a reference to the hippie culture” that didn’t work after “and in the editing process some of the gestures that I made, some of the things that I said were taken out for time. So I made peace signs, I said bohemian twice. Those were taken out for time and so when the joke aired some people were offended by it.”

She went on to add that “I find racism reprehensible. I don’t tolerate it at all nor have i ever. I think it’s really important for me to get that out there because that’s been the hardest part of all this.”

With some distance since the incident, Rancic further said “I see why people took offense. I thought that the joke was not edited in the proper way and that’s just something that I have to live with. But it’s very important for me to get out there and tell the real story and I would have that moment.”

When asked if she’d be back in the fall, she said “we’ll see.”

Fashion Police was put on hiatus in mid-March after both Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin exited the program in the wake of the controversy surrounding Rancic’s comments about Zendaya in which she said that the teen “smelled like patchouli oil … or weed” after wearing dreadlocks on the Oscars red carpet.

Rancic later apologized for the joke both on air and on social media, andZendaya later accepted the apology on social media. “I appreciate your apology and I’m glad it was a learning experience for you and for the network,” she tweeted. “I hope that others negatively affected by her words can also find it in their hearts to accept her apology as well.”
