Selena Gomez on Loving Fear, Her New Album & The Meaning of Life

Selena Gomez has a lot going for her right now: A new album she’s been “working endlessly” on, a comfort-centric collection with Adidas Neo, and, as witnessed on her live Google hangout May 13, a ton of Eastern European fans who very readily admit to loving her.

Side note: One fan from Prague (wearing a shirt she made with Selenators written across the front) was so overcome by meeting Selena that she broke into tears.

While the first half of the hangout was spent discussing bedazzled denim jackets and leggings, the second half — where pre-chosen girls (and a handful of guys) asked her more personal questions — was generally more insightful. (And awkward — see 12:40 where a guy from Prague asks what her favorite item in the collection is and Gomez responds, “Well, my favorite would probably have to be the sports bras.”)

Despite squealing fans and uncomfortable moments, Gomez was able to answer some fun questions that helped us all get to know her a little better. The hangout was around 20 minutes long, but don’t worry — below are our top 5 q+a’s.

5. Can you tell us some weird facts about yourself?

A. “I love getting scared,” Gomez admits. “I find myself putting myself in situations like haunted houses or going to a haunted hospital for my birthday. Yes, I’ve actually done that.”

4. How do you prepare for a role?

A. “…I’m really dramatic in general so I think the reason I love acting is because I can get out all my crazy, dramatic tantrums though acting on the screen, so I guess it just depends for which part.”

3.  What’re you working on this year?

A. “I’ve done four movies this year and I’ve been endlessly working on my album that’s almost kind of close to being done…just know that it’s the best I’ve ever done and you guys won’t be disappointed.”

2. What’s the meaning of life for you?

A. “I think life is very, very, very hard and I’ve never had anything come super easy to me, no matter what people may think,” Gomez said. “We only have one life and it is very precious and there’s a lot we can do and there’s a lot we should do.”

1. If you could change one thing in the world, what would you change and why?

A. “Bullying. I would deactivate every single comment on any social media. You should be able to post what you want, say what you want, be what you want without anybody judging you.”
