The anxiously awaited, highly controversial Amy Winehouse documentary Amyfinally has its first official trailer, with two minutes of fascinating footage from the singer’s life.
The first Amy preview includes footage from Winehouse’s upbringing, a quote from Tony Bennett, meditations on Winehouse’s struggles with fame and shots of the singer with her former husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. “I fell in love with someone who I would have died for. And that’s like a real drug, isn’t it?” Winehouse asks rhetorically at one point.
Prior to the official trailer release, a clip from Amy was released online earlier this month, and the film screened at Cannes to rave reviews. However, the documentary has been blasted by Winehouse’s family, which asserts that the filmmakers were “misleading” about their failure to help Winehouse overcome her drug and alcohol addictions. The Grammy-winning singer died in July 2011 at 27 years old.
The documentary, directed by Asif Kapadia, is set to be released on July 3 in the U.K.
