A woman in Sunrise, Florida, is facing numerous charges after police said she attempted to kidnap her children from a day care center and threatened an employee with a machete. Police said Ashley Dailey, 25, showed up at Early Learning Preschool on Wednesday morning and attempted to remove her children from the center, local station WSVN TV reports.
Dailey currently does not have custody of her two children and is under court order to stay away from the school, according to the Miami Herald.
According to an arrest report obtained by the paper, Dailey’s mother currently has full custody of the kids because the suspect’s “mental instability” make her a danger “to herself and her children.”
Police said Dailey tried to leave with her kids, but her mother, who was also at the preschool grabbed them away from her. When the preschool director told her to leave, Dailey allegedly smashed a computer monitor in anger before going to the parking lot. The director followed her to the car and threatened to call to call the police.
That’s when Dailey allegedly grabbed a machete she had in her Toyota Camry and swung it around. Officers arrived on the scene as Dailey was driving away, according to WSVN. Police said she crashed into two cars before being stopped in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95.
In order to take Dailey into custody, officers had to smash her car window.
Dailey was booked on numerous charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, leaving the scene of a crash, and reckless driving, according to the Sun Sentinel.
She remains at the Broward County Jail on $14,500 bail.
